Here at Coastal Action we believe that it is important to understand how humans and the natural world are connected. In today’s busy world there is a generation of children growing up indoors who are able to totally disconnect themselves from the outdoor world, and children who are detached from nature will never understand its true value. There are also costs associated with this disconnect in the health of our children such as: childhood obesity, hyperactivity, attention difficulties, loss of empathy, and in some cases depression. How will the leaders of tomorrow make decisions about land use and resources? It is environmental education that will bridge the gap, and help to reestablish a connection with nature.

Coastal Action is beginning to tackle this disconnect with some of our education and outreach projects. The future of our world depends on a well-educated public to be wise with the environment that sustains us.
